Caregiver Spotlight: Meet Donna!

At Opal Stork Home Care, we prioritize matching clients with caregivers based on expertise, temperament, and interests. Our caregivers are the lifeline of Opal Stork Home Care. They exemplify compassion, care, and commitment in everything that they do. Last month, we had the opportunity to sit down with Donna to gain some insight on her life as a live-in caregiver for Opal Stork Home Care.

How did you get started with Opal Stork Home Care?

Late last fall a friend who was working for Opal Stork recommended me to the agency and within a few weeks, I was working for Opal Stork myself.

What made you want to become a caregiver?

I am a passionate and caring person, and I just love helping the elderly. I've been doing this for about 15 years now and with every client, I treat them as if they were my mom or dad. The same level of care I would want my family to experience, I deliver to the clients I work with, that's just how I am.

What sets Opal Stork apart from other homecare agencies you have worked for?

Sandra (the owner). She is a very caring boss and looks out for her people. She goes above and beyond for her caregivers; the entire office does really.

What did you work as before becoming a caregiver?

I was self-employed as a dressmaker for over 20 years. I made all type of dresses from bridal gowns to professional attire, I did it all. I am done with that though, it gives you bad eye sight and the sewing machine leads to poor circulation so I am totally done with that.

What do you love about caregiving?

I just love my job overall, it's a great profession. You have to be a very loving and caring person to do this job though. One of my first clients (prior to Opal Stork) had gotten so used to having bad caregivers that when I showed up, she kicked me out that first day. After working with her for sometime, the other CNAs noticed a difference in her and asked me what I had been doing. All I did was show her love and her changed behavior was a reflection of that.

What are some special moments you've shared with an Opal Stork client?

My current client is one of the best clients I have had so far, she is a darling. She is a model patient, very nice and is quick to say thank-you no matter what I do.

What are some of your hobbies outside of caregiving?

I like listening to R&B, Gospel, and Reggae music. I also love to cook and travel. The beauty of the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas is unmatched!
