Meet the women behind the masks at Opal Stork Home Care
Sandra Salmon is the Geriatric Care Manager of Opal Stork Home Care. With over 23 years experience in healthcare, Sandra has worked at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in West Haven since 2000 as a Registered Nurse. Throughout her two decades at the VA, she has worked in the emergency room, as a wound care specialist, a private caregiver, and most recently she won the Nightingale Nursing Award in 2018. While still working full time at the VA, she leads a full-time office staff, drivers, and caregivers. A staunch advocate of patient and staff rights, Sandra serves as President of the Nurse's Union. In her rare moments of free-time, Sandra loves to travel all over the world having travelled to over thirty countries. A true lover of geography and history, she enjoys going to the places that she reads about.
Marcia Lim is the Operations Manager at Opal Stork Home Care and is responsible for all HR functions, such as staffing, hiring procedures, and orientation process. She also overseas the daily operation of the company to improve organizational processes, including operational policies and procedures, professional development, and strategic planning. Prior to this, Marcia worked for nineteen years in an academic setting serving as an administrator in various roles from Dean of Students, Administrative Director, and Education Manager. Marcia enjoys spending time with her family. Marcia is a volunteer tutor for a local non-profit organization and is active in her church as a youth leader and Sunday school teacher.
Crystal McKenzie is our Office Manager. She supervises our caregivers and responds to their needs all hours of the day and night. In addition to that, she manages the caregiver and employee schedules, payroll, billing, and communication with clients. Prior to coming to Opal Stork Home Care, she was sailing around the world working for Steiner Leisure, where she received multiple outstanding awards based on her performance each cruise. In November 2019, Crystal became a mother for the first-time to her newborn Nathan. Crystal is inspired daily by her mother and son. In her free time, Crystal likes to watch television shows and spend as much time with her little one. Her favorite quote is, "Success is not a destination, it’s a journey."
Islande Alabre is the Transportation Coordinator for Opal Stork Home Care where she provides non-emergency medical transportation for entities like assisted living facilities, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, dialysis centers and much more. She was born in Aukay, Haiti and came to the United States as a toddler. Islande is fluent in English, Haitian Creole and is conversational in Spanish. Music is her passion and she enjoys playing the piano. She is the mother of a beautiful 3-year-old girl and loves spending time with her family. Islande hopes to one day travel the world and visit many countries with her daughter.
Zara Ayanna Salmon is the Community Liaison for Opal Stork Home Care where she manages the website and social media pages. In addition, she communicates with our clients and caregivers to facilitate all their needs and aides with lead production. Prior to coming home to work for the family business, Zara worked for Social Enterprise Greenhouse as the Communications Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA in Providence, Rhode Island. Zara hopes to one day follow in her mom’s footsteps with owning her own business but until then, she is excited to learn hands-on entrepreneurship from the best!
